The WhyTry Fidelity Checklist uses four widely accepted characteristics on program fidelity to assess overall program fidelity.  Each of these characteristics is described in detail below:

  1. Dose/exposure: Number of sessions delivered, participant attendance, and length of sessions
  2. Adherence: Delivered appropriately according to program content, characteristics of the target population, characteristics of program providers, specified protocols and techniques, characteristic of setting
  3. Participant responsiveness: Extent to which participants are engaged and receptive to activities and content of the program
  4. Quality of program delivery: Manner in which providers implement the program (e.g. knowledge of content, delivery skills, enthusiasm, preparedness)

Dose/Exposure

The WhyTry Fidelity Checklist gathers information on dose and exposure by asking facilitators to report on the number of sessions delivered, the number of students participating in each session, and the length of each session.

Adherence

The WhyTry Fidelity Checklist gathers information on adherence to the WhyTry Program by asking facilitators to report on which components of the WhyTry curriculum they used by reporting on a yes/no checklist. The facilitator reports whether or not he/she covered the lesson objective, activities, and components.

Participant Responsiveness

The WhyTry Fidelity Checklist gathers information on participant responsiveness to the WhyTry Program by asking facilitators to report on students’ engagement with each lesson. Teachers can use the WhyTry Student Satisfaction Survey to help determine overall student engagement.
